Forums

GVOC supports and arranges a number of forums. They are based on special areas of interest or issues and are open to any voluntary or community group active in Gateshead.

The aims of the forums are to exchange information, share problems and solutions, receive information (usually from other statutory agencies) and to, where appropriate, send representatives on behalf of the forums to Partnership meetings.

The Forums currently operating are:
Bullet Asylum Seeker Interest Group
Bullet Children and Young People’s Services Forum
Bullet Community Care Forum
Bullet Compact Development Forum
Bullet Town Centre Forum
Bullet Voluntary Sector Forum
Bullet Voluntary Sector Mental Health Forum
Bullet Volunteers Forum

Members can join Forums by contacting GVOC for dates and times of meetings, and are always welcome to suggest new ideas for Forums.

Representation/Liaison with statutory agencies

GVOC, as an umbrella membership body, is often asked to represent the views of the voluntary sector to statutory or other agencies. This is carried out in a variety of ways:
Bullet Arranging for the most appropriate organisation to attend relevant meetings/partnerships
Bullet Taking requests to the appropriate forums and seeking nominations or arranging elections
Bullet Attending partnership meetings, reporting back and seeking views
Bullet Producing Members briefings and requesting feedback

GVOC meets regularly with representatives of statutory agencies and uses opportunities to raise relevant points or issues; will write on behalf of the voluntary sector when asked to on certain matters of joint concern and attends meetings of a more regional or national nature to represent the Gateshead Voluntary Sector.
